That doesn't mean playing as a Barbarian is impossible, it's just not going to go as quickly as other characters. Plus, you're further away from the action, making those characters much safer. Caster classes are stronger overall when you're on your own because you don't have to worry about your attacks hitting the target. On top of that, one of the main things to keep in mind is that, in general, melee characters are much worse for solo play. If you have friends or another character who can get you gear, other builds might be better. As will builds that require more high-end gear to really come online. So, builds that function best in multiplayer will fall down the list. First, this list is assuming you're starting from scratch and playing completely by yourself.
